Not This Week

February 4th, 2008

I formally give up. I can’t do a chapter this week

This is the week I actually move, the week I finish my taxes, and the week I have to finish my edit. And, of course, I have to work daily on the new Bangkok book. I thought I could get everything done, but I was wrong.

It may even be impossible for me to read everyone this week. Please understand if you don’t get anything from me. Worst-case is that this state of affairs will continue until Saturday of the present week. I WILL have a chapter up next week.

I will. I will? I will.

You have a whole lot going on that takes priority over this. We will be here when you’re ready. Good luck with your move!

  2. Steve Wylder Says:

I’m sure Cindy will have an appropriate comment. In the meantime, my sympathy. I just discovered your Asian English “DO YOU LIKE BUTT?” post. Wonderful. And if you’re in Kuala Lumpur this year, and have a chance to hear Pete Teo sing, let me know what you think.

  3. Timothy Hallinan Says:

Lisa — Thanks for the good-luck wish — I hit a chapter in the edit today that I have absolutely no idea how to improve. And I mean zero.

Thanks, Steve — One of the most embarrassing moments of my life. I won’t be in KL, but I can probably get Pete Teo on CD or DVD for about .50 in Phnom Penh, which is one of the world’s prime, um, shadow markets for that kind of stuff.

Good luck with the move and hope you have a smooth sailing.

  5. Cynthia Mueller Says:

    Thanks, Steve (I think!).

Tim, you could probably post a few pages of the Thai phone book and tell us you didn’t have time to translate it yet (we’d might believe you — once, anyway!)

I, too, found the BUTT post this afternoon. I came THIS close to getting caught laughing in my cubicle (strictly forbidden behavior).

  6. John Dishon Says:

Just claim Chinese New Year as your excuse.

  7. Timothy Hallinan Says:

Usman – Thanks; we move day after tomorrow, and this computer is the only thing in the house I can find.

Cynthia — The Thai phone book has been banned in the U.S. under the patriot act because it contains the numbers of so many Muslims and the administration feared that the numbers would be a tool for would-be terrorists. And I’m glad you like the BUTT post.

And John, actually I’ve worked my fingers to the bone sewing the dragon dance costume. I had to embroider it, too. And I couldn’t find my thimble because we’re moving.

  8. Wendy Ledger Says:

best luck with your move and your trip, Tim. I know you’ll write when you can.

  9. Timothy Hallinan Says:

Thanks, Wendy — I really feel derelict in not keeping up with everyone’s work. But eventually I have to stop thinking I can do everything in the world simultaneously without screwing up every single bit of it. So for right now, I’ve prioritized as (1) moving, (2) money, meaning writing Bangkok 3 and editing “Bad Money,” (3) everything else in the world.

I’m worn out just reading about all the items on your plate right now. 🙂 No worries on our part, Tim. It’s hard to balance commitment to this weekly Challenge with normal, day-to-day responsibilities, much less those unexpected circumstances life is so fond of tossing our way.

Hope everything goes smoothly and well.
